Principal in Charge – Ownership in Growing Boutique Structural Engineering Firm – Mass Timber | Innovation | Design | Sustainability – San Jose
Acumen is pleased to partner with DAEDALUS — a world-class, boutique structural engineering firm with a sustainability focus to hire their next Principal in Charge (PIC) to support their rapid growth. DAEDALUS partners with Best-In-Class architects on projects ranging from custom residential designs of $35M single family homes of the highest profile Bay Area residents to stunning destination venues in Napa, Sonoma, Carmel, and Hawaii to historic renovations such as the Presidio Visitor’s Center.
This new PIC role will support both the established DAEDALUS and an innovative new spin-off organization: TimberQuest. A startup that is already witnessing rapid growth, TimberQuest is providing prefabricated high-quality, cost-effective, climate friendly, modular solutions and is seeing rapid growth in the K-12 school and community college markets.
If you:

- Are ready to lead, train, and inspire a cohesive team of Project Managers and Engineers.
- Have 8+ years of relevant experience, including residential and commercial projects.
- Have a California Professional Engineering (PE) and Structural Engineer (SE) license (or a plan to obtain licensure through a reciprocal license program or testing).

Compensation: DAEDALUS is looking to add a proven leader to their team with a generous compensation package and an ownership stake in the organization. Annual compensation includes performance bonus and ownership equity stake in Daedalus and, the start-up joint venture TimberQuest, of 10-25% with fast-track vesting and associated profit sharing.

Responsibilities will include:
Build, lead, and develop teams
- Lead the ongoing training, development, and education of Project Managers and Engineers.
- Foster an environment of collaboration, teamwork, and excellence.
- Lead Staff Accountability Meetings / Review Utilization Reporting.
- Actively recruit top talent in accordance with the agreed-upon hiring plan.
- Co-lead in the hiring of all Project Managers and Engineer roles.
- Ensure proper onboarding of all Project Managers and Engineer new hires.
Projects
- Determine all project staff assignments with other PIC.
- Inspire cutting-edge innovation on all Daedalus projects.
- Ensure excellence in execution of all Daedalus projects.
- Ensure efficient and effective project communication.
Finance/Strategy
- Review monthly business review reporting.
- Participate in annual and quarterly reviews and planning with CEO & Business Ops.
- Review, address challenges, and sign off on Project Managers' monthly invoicing and Project Projections.
- Review and address challenges with Project Managers and Engineer utilization monthly.
Marketing/Customer Service
- Prepare Client Proposals with the support of Project Managers.
- Build rapport with current clients via calls, emails, lunches, etc.
- Prepare and deliver Client Presentations.
- Update prospective project projections for target clients.
- Attend conferences and targeted networking events.
- Identify and reach out to target clients as time allows.
