Director of Business Development – Fast-growing Integrative Healthcare Insurer

The Director of Business Development will lead a team that oversees healthcare plan relationships and sales, providers network relationships, marketing, and will be a key member of a professional and supportive leadership team.

The Director of Business Development position is responsible for developing new business opportunities, growing revenue, and expanding corporate brand. Duties include developing short and long-range plans by targeting existing and new markets, including planning, and implementing the sales, and product development plans. Must develop and lead a team of sales professionals in acquiring new clients, retaining current clients, and executing the strategic plan.
Salary: Compensation range: $160,000-$180,000
Location: Offices in Beaverton, Oregon. Role is a hybrid position, with 20% of time traveling to meetings and other sales venues.
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities
Qualifications and Experience
- BA/BS or equivalent experience required.
- Minimum of five years of experience in the healthcare insurance industry
- Active, unrestricted insurance license in Oregon. (Preferred or able to obtain while on the job)
- Valid driver’s license required.
Business Development:
- Develop and implement strategic plans to achieve corporate objectives for business development. Collaborate with management team members to resolve issues and ensure success of plan.
- Develop pipeline of prospects through relationship management and persuasive communication of capabilities.
- Establish and maintain relationships with industry influencers and key strategic partners.
- Develop strategic alliances with external partners.
- Represent company at conferences & trade association meetings to promote Company offerings.
- Meet with key clients, maintain relationships, negotiate, and close deals.
- Direct product research and development through participation on Product Concept Team.
- Develop and recommend product positioning, packaging, and pricing strategy to produce the highest possible long-term market share.
Sales:
- Develop and implement strategic sales plan to achieve corporate objectives for products and services. Direct sales forecasting activities and set performance goals accordingly.
- Direct market channel development activity and coordinate sales distribution by establishing sales territories, quotas, and goals (future).
- Develop sales prospects and maintain pipeline (funnel) of prospects through relationship management and persuasive communication of capabilities.
- Participate in all aspects of the sales cycle as appropriate, including pricing, proposals, presentations, negotiations, and follow-ups after closing.
- Ensure individual and departmental sales objectives are met. Achieve satisfactory margins per established sales metrics, and target market objectives.
- Reviews and analyzes sales performances against programs, quotes and plans to determine effectiveness.
- Ensure timely and accurate tracking and reporting of sales activities and results. Prepare timely sales report showing sales volume, potential sales, and areas of proposed client base expansion. Ensure the proper maintenance of the CRM system.
- Analyze and control expenditures of department to conform to budgetary requirements.
Account Retention and Enhancement:
- Maintain existing business by providing on-going customer contact and support. Serve as liaison with operational departments.
- Perform annual renewals, including on-site enrollment meetings and ad-hoc meetings.
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of all company products and services as well as customer issues and needs through ongoing training and self-directed research.
- Identify, prioritize, and pursue new and existing opportunities with current customers.
Marketing:
- Develop and implement strategic marketing plan including forecasts, to achieve corporate objectives for products and services.
- Develop target market objectives and establish value proposition for Company services.
- Oversee advertising, promotion and marketing activities including the development of collateral, online and electronic media campaigns, and direct mail.
- Cultivate competitive strategies and maintain knowledge of all key Company competitors. Monitor competitor products, sales, and marketing activities.
- Establish and maintain a consistent corporate image throughout all product lines, promotional materials, and events.
- Oversee and evaluate market research and adjust marketing strategy to meet changing market and competitive conditions.
- Provide ongoing competitive and market feedback to the company for:
- company positioning
- product development
- product pricing and planning
- Ensure effective oversight of marketing results and take corrective action to guarantee that achievement of marketing objectives falls within designated goals/projections.
- Review results and prepare reports of marketing activities to executive management.
- Analyze and control expenditures of department to conform to budgetary requirements.
Supervisory Duties:
- Direct staffing to ensure achievement of company and departmental goals. Coach, develop, and mentor employees to maximize talent and optimize team performance. Ensure adequate resources and training are provided to promote professional development of team.
- Analyze departmental data to establish metrics and measure individual and team performance. Ensure performance evaluations are completed in a timely and effective manner.
- Promote internal departmental communication and cross-training as appropriate.
