Challenge

A healthcare technology innovator was ready to share its story globally and sought a high-level marketing and communications expert to spearhead next steps in its go-to-market plan. The job required a well-rounded analytical strategist who could execute tactical steps, as well as offer a creative mind. This required finesse and vision to help position the company for growth. The job description was broad in scope. Prior agencies had come up short in presenting the appropriate candidate pool and anxiety began to mount. Acumen was again asked to partner with the organization and the team accepted the challenge.

Solution

Once Acumen was retained, the positions’ priorities were clarified and redefined; the job description revamped, and a more targeted search was implemented. Simultaneously, a meeting with key partners in Europe led to a final “aha” moment; the company realized that above all, they needed an eloquent storyteller who shared their passion and vision. The search was more challenging as they require a communications leader with hands-on experience in both traditional medical device users, as well as with wellness and naturopathic professionals. Success hinged on setting proper and realistic expectations, which resulted in a unique group of highly qualified prospects with broad communication skills and industry experience – and ultimately a perfect match.

Results

The selected Marketing Communications Director quickly assimilated to the needs and culture. Most impressive has been his ability to develop a cohesive internal and external communications plan that has tied the messaging and story together across key channels. Once the company was willing to compromise with certain trade-offs in terms of the original, broader scope of the position, they found an ideal match. Ultimately, the trade-offs were inconsequential.
